Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving morning we awoke to find it was snowing! I always feel that both Thanksgiving and Christmas are better with snow. David and I hopped on our bikes and went to pick up our turkey. The city was bustling. How could everyone be working today... It's a holiday! Well, for us anyway. It was nice, however, to be able to dash out to the store for missed ingredients. We had ordered a 4 kilo turkey, but as they are caught wild and not farmed like in the USA, it wasn't quite the size we wanted, only 3.25 kilos. So, we supplemented our bird with a 1 kilo slice of breast meat from another turkey, which worked out nicely. We started cooking around 10:30am. We made cornbread and then cornbread stuffing for the turkey. Michelle and Tucker joined us around 3:00 to make all the side dishes: yams, green beans, creamed onions, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and more stuffing.
Ingrid, Alois, Rosi, Walter, and Steve came over around 6:30 and we drank Glühwein (a tasty Austrian beverage of warm spiced wine) and chatted as we finished cooking. David made a delicious gravy from the turkey giblets.

For dessert Ingrid made her Apfelstrudel...
... and I made a pine nut pie.

After dinner Steve entertained us with Rosi's guitar
and Walter harmonized with his harmonica

It was a very successful Thanksgiving, and now there is a big mess to clean up!

And now for the best part... leftovers!!!
