Carinthia
Today my dad and I drove to the provence of Carinthia, to the west of Styria. First we stopped at Hochosterwitz castle which claims to be an inspiration to Snow White's castle. David, Greg, Bryte & I had driven by it on our way to Italy, but not stopped to explore it.
Walking up the hill to the fortress there are many gates.
After touring the castle we at lunch in the town of St. Veit an der Glan. Next, we drove to the medieval town of Friesach which still has a moat surrounding it and several ruins on the hills overlooking it.
After exploring the ruins we drove to a town called Hüttenberg where there is a large banner with the Buddha on it with a meditation stair climbing all over a cliff. Heinrich Harrer who wrote Seven Years in Tibet is an Austrian who explored all over Africa, South America, and the Far East and tried to bring some the thinking back to Austria.
On our drive back to Graz we drove over a mountain road that is only open in the summer. It was very lightly snowing at the top and the clouds were clinging to the side of the mountain.
