Grossglockner
On Tuesday before driving back to Graz we went to see the highest mountain in Austria, The Grossglockner. It is 3799.4 meters (12,457 feet) high. It is right on the borders of Carinthia, Osttirol, and Salzburg. Here is the picturesque town of Heiligenblut right before it.
Very often the peak is in the clouds. This day was fairly clear, and only the very tip was covered.
David managed to get a photo of some hikers with the camera looking through the telescope. They are right below the clouds/peak.
There is a glacier at the base of the mountain.
For lunch we went to the top of the Edelweissspitze in Salzburg. From up here you can see 37 peaks that are over 3000 meters high. Unfortunately there are no Edelweiss growing on it. :(
Here is an Edelweiss that was in a garden in Sillian. There aren't really any wild ones left.

There was the cutest old car, a BMW "600". To get into the front seat you open the front of the car! The whole steering wheel is attached to the door, so it swings out when you get in/out! The side doors are for the back seat. We weren't sure if David would fit...

A huge wall of snow, in the middle of summer.
Sadly that was the end of our Alpine adventure and it was time to go back to Graz. We had a great time and appreciate being able to experience the Alps with such knowledgeable local guides! It was also a great weekend for our German. Thank you Jakob, Andrea, Ingrid, and Alois!
